A Lesson in Grace from my Mother.

Grace is when You get more than You deserve
Mercy is when You don’t get exactly what You do deserve

As humans, we have a tendency to react quickly to situations without fully thinking them all the way through. I am guilty of this as I can often be quick tongue or ill-tempered when things don’t go exactly as I would like them to go. My Mother, who is an ordained minister in the Baptist church, often tends to arguments or objections on matters by simply saying “it’ll be alright.” Sometimes I don’t agree 100% with my Mothers “Let Go and Let God” attitude. However, I realized today that her actions have been covertly preparing and teaching me how to react when certain situations come about that would cause us to do and say things that aren’t Christ-like.

Today my younger sister called me upset about a situation that occurred the day before and my mother’s reaction to the situation. Long story short my Mother stepped in to help a family member in need. My sister was valid to be worried about my Mother as I found myself thinking her same thoughts as the situation was being explained to me. As my sister continued to rant on I realized that my Mother did just what she was supposed to do as Christain woman. She extended Grace to someone in need. 1 Peter 4:10 says “each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” My Mother, being a servant of God did just what God expects of all us. I explained this to my Sister and reminded her that we are shown Grace each and every day. As humans, we consciously make bad choices and poor decisions that affect us negatively. If everyone turned their back on those whose deeds caught up with them then, we’d all be standing around with our noses in a corner. Today my Mother through her works taught me a lesson that I shall never forget and for this I am eternally grateful.

Grace. Can be so difficult to extend yet we all need it at some point from others.

What a great reminder of something so simple. But it’s true that we’re extended grace daily and that’s what we’re expected to extend to others. But I’m definitely guilty of not doing so as often as I should. Thanks for sharing!

I like the way this was written, first of all. And, yes. A beautiful reminder. Your mom is a treasure. I’m grateful that I read this. As she was a reminder for you, you’re now a reminder for me and everyone who reads this!

Beautiful post. No matter how “grown” we are, our Mothers continues to teach us life lessons. I’m grateful for that. The grace/mercy quote is on point! In addition to the many blessings I receive, it’s humbling to remember how much mercy I’ve been given as well.
