The Best Makeup Primers for Oily Skin

Makeup isn’t supposed to slide off your face, but that’s exactly what happens when you have oily skin and don’t prep for the masterpiece you’re about to create with your makeup. I’ve used countless oil control lotions and moisturizers to try to combat my oily skin but to no avail. These past couple of months leading up to summer I’ve been on a serious search for a product that could really keep the oil at bay and not have me looking as if I were cooking fried chicken all day. Makeup Primers are made to prime the skin, or to prepare it for the makeup application. When applied correctly they help to enhance the look of your skin and wear of your makeup.Of all the products  tried only three stood out from the rest and I’ve been using them in heavy rotation in my makeup regimen. In my opinion these are the best three Makeup Primers for Oily Skin

1. Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Base Mattifying Primer $36

Many of you know that I love all things Make Up For Ever so when I saw they had a new Mattifying Primer I knew I ha to try it out.  Like most of their products, a little goes a long way so this one tube will last you quite a way. The secret to using this product is to warm it up by placing it on the back of your hand and then applying it with a fluffy brush. The Make Up For Ever 112 Medium Precision Brush works great for this, or you can use any fluffy blush of similar shape. This product is superb at reducing shine and controlling oil throughout the day.  Best Makeup Primers for Oily Skin, MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer, Mattifying Primer, Makeup Primer, Being Melody

Murad Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 $65

I got turned onto the Murad Invisblur Perfecting Sheild by Danielle over at the Style and Beauty Doctor after picking up the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops. The great thing about this product is that it’s a 3-n-1. It’s an anti-aging treatment, a primer, and a sunscreen all in one.  As with the Make Up For Ever primer, a little of this goes a long way and it’s best applied with a sponge or a Beauty Blender if you’re wearing it alone. Since I use this to mix with my Cover FX Custom Cover Drops I use a Flat Foundation Brush to apply the mixture. While the Murad Invisiblur does not specifically state that it is an oil reducing or mattifying product I’ve seen great results when wearing it. Remember the post I did where I told you how to Live Radiantly? I was wearing the Murad Invisiblur Cover FX Custom Cover drop combination. If you’re looking for a multi-tasking product that delivers amazing skin care results the Murad Invisiblur is a must have.

Cover FX Mattifying Primer with Anti-Acne Treatment $38.

The Cover FX Mattifying Primer was actually one of the first Mattifying products that I tested out. This product is a light-weight, water resistant, gel primer that treats and heals acne/blemish all while mattifying the skin. Since skincare products are a bit pricey I picked this one up for it’s dual purpose properties as I do fight with acne from time to time. While the Cover FX Mattifying Primer does not perform as well as the first two products I mentioned as far as longevity in mattifying I still find myself reaching for it when I wear my heavier foundations though I have found that it does not play well with my Make Up For Ever HD Foundation. The great thing about this product is that if you don’t want to use it all over your face you can use it as a spot treatment for breakouts!

I’ve yet to come across a great budget friendly mattifying skincare product but trust me I keep my eyes open. Have you tried these products or do you have a favorite Mattifying Primer you like to use? If so share your thoughts with me in the comments.

This looks like a great choice for my oldest daughter. She definitely fights with oily skin and could use something designed specifically to help her skin. I really like what I see here and I am going to talk to her about giving this a try. Healthy skin is so important at every age and stage.Thank you for sharing this post with us!

Primer always surprises me with how effective it is at keeping my look polished all day. It’s really something I should use more regularly. I just wish the really good mattifying primers weren’t so pricey.

I was never good at makeup, especially when choosing products that I should and shouldn’t use. I have oily skin and I think this will work for me. I love that the primer comes with an acne treatment as I tend to breakout when using makeup.

It is nice to see that there are primers/makeup products for all types of skin! Personally I do not have oily skin (I have the opposite problem) but this would be great for those who do as I would imagine that oily skin and regular primers do not work well together!

I have not tried any of these primers but then again i do not really wear makeup. I was put off because I have oily skin and the makeup does slide off, but now i will give a try one of your suggestions in the post

While I don’t wear makeup, I am always interested in ready about products and people’s experiences with them! This looks to be a great primer for people with oily skin! I will be sure to share this post with my friends who seem to have an awful time with their makeup!

Having oily skin is the most annoying thing about my daily routine! It’s not as bad as it used to be, but it can definitely make looking good difficult! I have a tube of Makeup Forever, and it’s great! Does what I need it to do, and is not a beauty time sink! Great reviews.
