Your Mouth Could be Ruining Your Relationships.

“Thanks to LISTERINE® I’m practicing good oral care as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #Listerine”

When I was still a young tenderoni on the dating scene there was always an order to which I’d checkout the opposite sex to see if they were worthy of my conversation. First, I’d check out his face, while I wasn’t looking for someone who was drop dead gorgeous he had to at least be easy on the eyes. The second thing I would look at would be his shoes. I really  have no scientific reasoning for this, but if a guy took care of his shoes it would mean … well, it would mean absolutely nothing cut me some slack I was superficial back then! The last thing I would observe would be his mouth and all that lies within. I’d go through a mental checklist in my head like, does he have all his teeth, are they straight, are they stained and so on and so on. Yep, I was superficial, but I grew out of that and married a man who had the cutest gap.

So, while I stopped being superficial that didn’t stop me from continuing to be concerned with other aspects of the mouth, you know like Oral Hygiene. It’s no secret that oral health can a huge determining factor in ones relationship. An old associate of mine started dating a guy that all the girls had been eyeing back when I was getting my Masters. We all envied her until she told us why they’d stopped dating. It turned out he had very poor oral hygiene which was something she understandably just couldn’t look past. Actually, more than half of Americans believe that oral health issues can negatively impact one’s success in their relationships (52%), more than an unhealthy weight (33%) or bad skin (19%). Just take a look at the infographic below. Bad Breath is more of deal breaker than not offering to pay or texting in the middle of a meal!

Your mouth says a lot about you and it is one of the biggest factors when it comes to a “first impression” as most conversations or meetings require that you be near the other person. The last thing you want is for someone to automatically have negative thoughts about you because your breath was not so fresh. Remember how I said the particulars of person’s mouth was one of my factors for if I was going to engage a guy in conversation or not? Imagine trying to have a conversation with someone who’s breath wasn’t too fresh. I would’ve sent you right to the end of the undatable line not even carrying how great of person you were or if you had your life together and could buy me nice things.

Though people may not want to admit it bad oral hygiene can be a huge distraction for others and cause you to lose out on more than the person of your dreams as it gives people a false perception of what’s really going on in your life.  Did you know that brushing your teeth alone misses 75% of your mouth, leaving millions of germs behind. Left untreated, these germs can lead to oral care issues such as plaque and gingivitis. Actually, more than eight in 10 people think they have a healthy mouth and would be surprised to learn that most Americans suffer from some form of oral disease.

One way to be sure that you’re putting your best mouth forwards is to rinse with a therapeutic mouthwash like LISTERINE® AntisepticWhen incorporated as part of your twice daily oral care LISTERINE® has the power to kill the bacteria that can be the cause of many oral health issues.
