Fall is my absolute most favorite time of the year.The humidity stops messing up my hair. I don’t have to worry about thigh or boob sweat and I can finally pull out all my cute comfortable clothes. The one thing I do despise about Fall is the absolute disregard that companies have for women of the wide calf kind. Everywhere I look, in every magazine, in every catalog there are boots galore, however, there seems to be a complete disregard for women who need wide calf boots!
Seriously, let’s just stop with the lies. A circumference of 16″ does not make a boot wide calf! Understandably, the average width of a woman’s calf is 15″ but adding another inch does not make it a wide calf boot. Many women like myself who are the curvier side have larger or muscular calfs that exceed 17″. The other day I made a visit to take advantage of their Boot Sale and I was utterly disappointed at the lack of Wide Calf Boots available. It’s as if they’re purposely trying to alienate a large demographic of buyers. You’d think I’d of learned my lesson after years and years of not finding boots that I love. One thing I have learned is that the key to finding the perfect pair of Wide Calf Boots is knowing the circumference of your calves before hand. The best way to do this is to measure your calves while you’re sitting down in a chair with your knees bent at a 90-degree angle. Also, remember that the measurement of the circumference on a website is based on a standard shoe size, usually an 8.5. The larger the size the larger the circumference.
After that disappointing shopping trip, I decided to scan the internets looking for cute wide calf boots that would meet the needs of us wide calf women 17″ and up.
