Four Tips for Those Considering an Undercut Natural Hairstyle

The thing I love about Natural Hair is that it’s so versatile. Since going natural over six years ago, I’ve had several hairstyles ranging from a full on afro to rocking a quick and easy brush cut. In a previous post, I shared with you the decision to completely shave off most of my hair and rock an Undercut Natural Hairstyle. After having this style for over a month, I felt that I learned enough to share some tips to those who are thinking about venturing down the path this same past.

  1. An Undercut Natural Hairstyle is budget friendly:  I am very concious about how much money I spend on my hair because it honestly can bet a bit ridiculous. Especially when you have natural hair. salons can charge up to $65 for a wash and style which always makes me give an epic side eye. The great thing about an Undercut Natural hairstyle is that maintanace only cost me $17 every time I get my hair cut. This averages out to about $40 a month if I get it cut every two weeks or just $17 if I stretch it out to only getting it cut once a month.
  2. The Undercut Natural Hairstyle is versatile: You can do so much with just a little bit of hair. So far I’ve worn crochet braids, as seen in the first picture. I’ve rocked a cute Tiara inspired protective style, which you can watch the quick how-to video of here, and I’ve rocked a coil out, twist out, and wash and go. I’m quickly figuring out which styles work best with my head shape. I feel the bigger the hair the better. Undercut Natural HairStyle |BeingMelody.com| @BeingMelody
  3. Confidence is important: Let me start off with saying this style isn’t for everyone. At first even for me! When I first got my hair cut I  looked in the mirror and thought to myself “Melody WTF did you just do?”  I seriously had a woe’s me moment for a little bit until I pulled it together and reminded myself that the reason I got the hairstyle was because I knew I was confident and bold enough to rock it. Some of my family members weren’t fans of the style, but that’s okay. Having the courage and confidence to rock an amazing hair style despite what others says shows how much you’ve grown beyond what other people think.
  4. This style will grow out quick: After the first cut, I thought my stylist cut my hair a bit too short. She must have saw my concern because she even told me that in a couple of days it would be like I never even got my hair cut. She was right and wrong. My hair grew overnight. Within a week I was wondering if I should go back and get my hair cut again. So if you venture down the path of an Undercut Natural Hairstyle and have that moment of a regret trust that your hair will grow back fast and within a month and half you’ll be able to shape small curls with the help of some water, gel and a brush.
