As a Ph.D. candidate, I find that I’m always talking to someone about my research. These conversations are never simple, as I usually have to find ways to break down what I’m working on in such a way that a lay person (someone who is not in the science field) will understand it. I also present my research at tons of conferences, mostly in the form of a poster talk. A poster presentation is much more intimate as you’re usually talking to one or two people at a time, and because you’re pointing out different things on your poster it’s usually pretty up close and personal. The last thing I want to worry about when I’m trying to explain to someone why I believe that my protein is indeed a putative myosin light chain is whether or not my breath is fresh.

A recent national survey revealed the health of one’s mouth has a surprising and significant impact on how others perceive many aspects of one’s life – including your career. First impressions are important, especially more so now that I’m looking for my next position after I graduate. Nearly 7 in 10 Americans think having an unhealthy mouth threatens one’s chances of getting hired (68%). Consider me part of that 7. I use these conferences to network and put my best foot forward. Networking in itself is intimidating enough so I don’t want a potential PostDoctoral mentor to stop by my poster because they were interested in my work only to be turned off by my breath.

Since I can’t always run to the bathroom and brush my teeth right before a presentation I always keep something on hand that will allow me to easily and discreetly freshen my breath. LISTERINE® PocketPaks are one of the things you’ll almost always find in my clutch wallet. They’re small, but pack a huge punch when it comes to fighting bad breath.  Besides, brushing your teeth alone misses 75% of your mouth, leaving millions of germs behind. Left untreated, these germs can lead to oral care issues such as plaque and gingivitis. TheLISTERINE® PocketPaks dissolve instantly and the fresh sensation lets you know that it’s working immediately. So, if you’re in rush you don’t have to worry about trying to spit out gum or chew a tablet. They also kill 99% of bad breath causing germs as well as kill bacteria giving you the ability to put your best breath, er self forward when it comes to situations that can affect your career.

I have NEVER tried a Listerine Pocketpak! However after reading this I am going to try them! In fact I think these would make a great stocking stuffer for everyone in my family. My son is always concerned with his breathe which is funny since he is only 10 so this will be great for his stocking! Thanks!

I love those stripes. Others are super spicy for me but not the LISTERINE ones!

These are perfect for us to use when we travel! Sometimes we try odd foods that mess with our breath or leave an odd after taste. I love how small and discreet they are as well.

Those are great for carrying around easily! I mean, come on, you never know when you’re gonna need to kiss someone. 😉

Yes! Halitosis is definitely a turn-off. The last thing you want to do is be talking to someone for networking purposes and have them be turned off by something that has nothing to do with your many talents. These are great, because unlike gum they just dissolve in your mouth and no one is the wiser 😉

My husband was a car salesman for a little over a year. He never left the house without his Listerine Pocket Paks. He said he hated to greet a customer with gnarly breath!

My grandchildren got me hooked on TicTacs but they seem more like candy than a breath freshener. I already use Listerine product in my bathroom so I’m definitely willing to give these pocketpaks a try! Thank you for sharing this wonderful tip with us! 🙂

I’ve always thought that Listerine had a better product than all of the other breath fresheners. I also love the strips, anything that makes your mouth feel that minty is good with me!
