I have/had quite an extensive handbag collection. Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Tory Burch, 3.1 Phillip Lim you name it I probably owned it or it was on my list of bags to own. You could’ve just called me the handbag queen, and I would have promptly responded “Hey Girl!” with a big smile on my face.

I even went as far as to transform one of our old Ikea Bookshelves into a handbag closet using some shutters I found at Homegoods. I had spray painted the doors metallic silver. Purchased some cute knobs and had my husband attach them to the bookshelf. Now I had a great chic way to store all my handbags without stuffing them into a closet, uh kinda.
As time went on my addiction collection became a bit too much so I adopted the mantra that for every handbag that came in one had to go. This worked for a while, and I was able to make a few bucks back by selling handbags on PoshMark, but now that I’ve been living Broke on Purpose for the past 16 months I’ve realized that my handbags were a symbol of my inability to control the way I was spending my money. Here I was seriously in debt, and one of the things I had to show for it was a closet full of handbags. The more and more I thought about it the more I realized I was just using the same handbags over and over again. I just can’t get enough of my Rebecca Minkoff MAB Tote.
So I’ve ultimately decided that I’m going to sell slowly all my handbags while working to procure a select number of classic bags that I can wear over again all while never growing tired of them. My list contains some pretty ambitious purchases. Nowhere along the lines of a Hermes Birkin, because I don’t think I could ever own a handbag that is equal to or more than my yearly salary, but let’s just say it’s going to take some time for me to save up to purchase these lucky ladies.
My list isn’t really that big. Maybe around five or six, plus I already own three, two of which I was able to pick up this year. Lucky for me I was able to grab them for a fraction of the price by shopping the sale sections of my favorite sites like Farfetch and Barney’s Warehouse. Be sure to follow me on PoshMark where I’ll be selling my bags. You can even follow me through the widget below.
