My Completed Winter Capsule Wardrobe

What's in my Winter Capsule Wardrobe for 2016

My Winter Capsule Wardrobe is finally put together and I’m so excited about and the fact that it’s going to make my life unbelievably simpler in the mornings.  No more going to my closet trying to figure out what I’m going to wear only to find myself reaching for the same thing 10 minutes later. With this wardrobe, I can walk up, see what I have, put together an outfit, and be on my way. Getting dressed takes less than five minutes and I actually look like something!

Since, I didn’t start putting together my winter wardrobe until after Christmas I basically worked with items already on hand. It turns out I am a huge Loft fan as most of the items that survived came from that store. Since I did a huge purge I only added a few new items to finish out the capsule, making sure to stay within my budget. You can see the new things I purchased by checking out this post. Usually, a capsule wardrobe has 37 items. Mine only has 28 which gives me room to add a few more bottoms and maybe a couple of tops that remained from the purge.

The Tops
I describe my style as comfy cute. Since I’ve been  working in a lab for the past six years I’ve found that I’ve gotten away from super dressy clothing, because let’s be honest no one wants to culture malaria in a dressy top and risk ruin and opted for items that are a lot more comfortable but still could be dressed up with the proper accessories. A number of my tops range from gray to black and then go to the opposite side of the spectrum with soft blues and cream. My favorites pieces are my “Black Girls are Magic” graphic tee which I’ve also purchased in a long sleeve and hoodie form and my chambray button down shirt which is probably one of my versatile pieces.

The Bottoms
My bottoms are pretty basic. I have 3 pair of jeans ranging from black to your normal blue wash denim as well as my favorite camo pants that I wear all year round. I have one mixed media leather skirt that I snagged from Asos. It was only $20 so I picked it up and took it to a tailors to get it taken in. The good news is that it’s starting to fit too big again! Not pictured are my faux leather leggings which were still in transit. I have so many ideas in mind for styling them.

Handbags

Everyone knows I love handbags. Last year I started a rule that for every new handbag that came in one had to go so I posted a few on my Poshmark site and sold others to friends through facebook. This winter I’ve gravitated to only three handbags out of my entire collection. My Tory Burch Brody satchel, my 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Hour camo bag, the Dagne Dover tiny tote. As you can see I have  a thing for the color deep berry. I find that this color pairs well with all my outfits giving me that sometimes essential  pop of color.

Shoes

I’m still in the process of purging my shoes. My husband always seems to give me a weird side-eye when I throw shoes away. He acts as if it’s an unforgivable sin or something. I listed tons of my shoes on my Poshmark site as well. Especially, all the heels that I can no longer wear due to my ankle injury a while back. No pictured are my comfy BearPaws that I slip on when I want to be super casual. I have to have a pair of sneakers and when I saw these rose gold Nike Air Max I had to have them. My other three pairs of shoes are my Vince Camuto Moto boots that I absolutely love, my knee boots, and my splurge gift the Valentino Classic Black Pumps. I’m not sure how much wear I’ll get out of the black pumps but they’re a classic pair that will work in almost all the seasons.

I’m hopng that this capsule wardrobe will teach me alot of about my style as well as  help me deal with my self diagnosed  shopping addiction that I’ve been battling. If it doesn’t fit in with the style or work with the capsule I just wont buy it. Since I am on a strict budget with 90% of any extra money going towards paying down  my student loans I’m going to have to decide how much I want to spend on my Spring Capsule wardobe and think about peices I wantt to incorporate. Since I have almost 2 months before Spring gets here I’m hoping that I will have dropped a few pounds also while make shopping even more rewarding! I do plan to feature pictures of my varius outfits as best as I can. It’s kinda hard when you don’t have a photograpeher on hand all the time but I’ll maek it work so stay tuned!
