Three Tips to Help you Live Radiantly this Summer.

During the summer, some of my brightest head-turning colors come out to play while my heavy foundations go into hibernation. I’m a Leo so by nature summer is the time when I really start to bloom and my personality shows, however, no lioness wants to be walking around her pride with her makeup melting off in the hot summer heat. So how do you continue to #LiveRadiantly and let your true colors show without letting the  intense warm weather and humidity beat you down?

1. Go Light on the Foundation.

While I don’t skimp on color in the summer I do however pare down my makeup regimen. Instead of heavier full coverage foundations I opt for a sheer alternative. You can easily sheer out your full coverage foundation by mixing it with a moisturizer or a pore minimizing product. In the summer, your skin will naturally turn a shade or two darker so if you’ve been eyeing a new line this is a great time for you to try out a new product. BB Creams are also a great choice if you want to go lighter with your makeup, however, keep in mind there aren’t many options currently available for Woman of Color.

2. Embrace Color.

If there was ever a time to wear that taxi cab yellow lipstick without getting awkward looks it’s now. I draw most of my colorful makeup inspiration from nature. Look around at all vividness of the colors in the foliage and the flowers. If they can sport color and be seen as beautiful then so can you. Don’t be afraid of that neon pink lipstick as you have the power to control how it looks on you. With the right lip pencil or a dab a gloss that neon pink lipstick will become a color that compliments your skin perfectly.

3. Get rid of the Greasy Lotions.

Yes, the butters were in when it was below 30 outside, but now that temps are hovering in the 90’s you may want to rethink all that heavy lotion and opt for a new and lighter  non-greasy version. My go to lotion for the summer are the St Ives® Fresh Hydration Lotions. You may not think that a spray on lotion can give you the moisturization that your skin needs, but trust me on this they work! They’re made with 100% natural moisturizers including extracts like apricot and orchid and have vegetable glycerin and shea butter.

The St. Ives® Fresh Hydration Lotions also smell amazing and come in two fresh scents. NEW St. Ives® Smooth & Glow Apricot Spray Lotion, and St. Ives Indulgent Coconut Milk & Orchid Extract Fresh Hydration Lotion.

Your pictures are so pretty! Definitely very radiant. I like your idea of skipping greasy lotion. With such an emphasis on sunscreen, it’s easy to forget that greasy does NOT look radiant.

Some great advice. Greasy is definitely not an attractive look for any of us! Healthy skin is the most radiant, so protecting it from the sun is so important. Using a great moisturizer is important too!
