New Year, Better Me

It’s cliche to scream out New Year, New Me. Here’s what’s wrong with the whole “new year, new me” thing. You’re telling yourself that the old you wasn’t good enough. You’re saying to yourself that you’re ready to throw away all your hard work, unlearn the life lessons that you’ve learned and shed memories of times when love was enough.

I don’t want a new me. I’m going into 2019 knowing that I’m not perfect, admitting that I have flaws, but you see the beauty in growing older is that every day you get a chance to create the life that’s perfect in your eyes.

So this year when the ball dropped I exclaimed, New Year, Better Me, because when you’ve had a year as I’ve had it can only go up from there right?

These are how I’m going to make 2019 better.

I’m going to become more comfortable with speaking in public. Even Public speaking terrifies me, but I know it’s what I’m supposed to do. I often joke that I have an out of body experience when I speak in public. My alter ego takes over and I’m in the crowd cheering her on. My husband and I jokingly call it the Sasha Fierce effect. So, this year I plan to become better at calming my nerves, being fully present, and taking on public speaking opportunities with everything I have.

I will become better at making my health a priority. If you look back at my pictures from 2016 to now, you’ll notice that I gained all the weight that I lost again. This declaration isn’t me making a resolution to lose weight. That’s a setup for failure. It’s me committing to putting my health first, to think twice before eating that 5th taco, to going to the gym instead of laying in bed thinking of all the reasons why I shouldn’t.

This year I will do better at being consistent. Life is life, and I can no longer use it as an excuse for why I didn’t follow through or give something my all. Either I’m going to do it 100%, or I’m not going to do it at all.

This year I will be a better daughter, sister, wife, daughter-in-law, friend, mentor, coach, teacher, and student. I will show up when people need me. I will love on them, laugh with them, support them. I will learn the lessons the world is teaching me and share the experiences I’ve been given to teach.

I will be better at taking risks and not second-guessing my choices. Can you believe I went back and forth over this LOFT Lou and Grey Poncho so many times? I even thought about returning it because even though I loved it on the mannequin, I didn’t think I had it in me to pull it off. I was completely wrong. I love this poncho so much I’m dubbing it one of my best purchases from 2018. These perfect fitting jeans are LOFT Curvy Jeans. I’ve been a LOFT girl for years and will continue shopping there well into 2019 and years to come.
